Services & Practicalities
This page gives a clear, compassionate overview of my services, how therapy works in practice, and what to expect around fees and practicalities. I believe in making the process of starting therapy as simple and transparent as possible, so you can focus on your wellbeing.
P.S. It's completely normal to have questions before starting therapy. If there's anything you're still unsure about, the FAQs page might help.

HOW WE START

Booking your first appointment
If you're thinking, “Okay... how do I actually get started?” - here’s what the process looks like.
You can get in touch in whichever way feels easiest: by booking a free 15-minute consultation through my website, using the contact form, or emailing me.
Once I’ve received your message, I’ll aim to respond within two working days.
If you’d like to move forward, we’ll find a suitable time for our first appointment together. Before we meet, I’ll send over a short initial set of forms, including a therapy agreement and some questions to help me get a clearer understanding of what’s bringing you to therapy.
I’ll also send a confirmation email with all the practical details you need, whether we’re meeting in Derby or online, so you know exactly what to expect.
Your Therapy Journey
01
Get in touch
The first step is to get in touch and arrange a free 15-minute consultation. You can book your consultation directly through my website at a time that suits you, or contact me via my contact form or email and I’ll arrange a time with you. I’ll aim to respond to enquiries within two working days.
02
Free 15-minute consultation
The free 15-minute consultation is an opportunity for us to briefly discuss what’s bringing you to therapy, what you’re hoping to get from it, and whether I’m the right therapist to support you.
It’s also an opportunity for you to ask any initial questions and get a sense of how I work. If we decide that therapy could be a good fit, I’ll explain the next steps and we can arrange your initial assessment.
03
Assessment session
Our first therapy session is an assessment, where we'll begin exploring your experiences, what's been happening recently, and the patterns that may be contributing to your difficulties. Together, we'll build a shared understanding of what makes sense about your experiences, clarify your goals for therapy, and discuss what working together might look like, including how often we'll meet and the number of sessions that may be helpful. This creates a clear, collaborative foundation for our work together, while remaining flexible as your needs and goals evolve.
04
Regular therapy sessions
Following your assessment, we'll usually meet weekly at the same time each week, unless we've agreed a different arrangement together. Regular sessions help build momentum and provide consistency as therapy progresses.
The pace of our work within each session will always be guided by you. Together, we'll work towards your goals, developing a deeper understanding of yourself while exploring practical strategies and new ways of responding that support meaningful, lasting change.
05
Reviews & ending therapy
Throughout therapy, we'll regularly review how things are going, typically every 4–6 sessions, to reflect on your progress, revisit your goals, and ensure our work continues to meet your needs. When the time feels right, we'll plan an ending together, giving you the opportunity to reflect on what you've learned and how you can continue building on this beyond therapy. If you'd find it helpful, we can also arrange follow-up sessions after therapy has ended to help you maintain your progress and check in when needed.
